Locatie

Omschrijving

Please join us to help plant 2000 small tree whips (30-50cm) at this inspiring and beautiful site in Smeeton Westerby. The site is situated on the Langton Brook, off the footpath running from Debdale Lane. Please park near to location What3Words ///airstrip.instance.rotations.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE. This site is next to open ponds and the fast running brook. Children must be carefully supervised by their parents or guardians.

Thanks to wonderful landowners at the Smeeton Westerby Nature Project this is the first of many natural flood management schemes instigated by Harborough Woodland, that are needed in the upper River Welland catchment to slow the flow, improve river quality, reduce flooding and create important habitat of wildlife. The footpath through part of it allows you to see your trees grow next to the Langton Brook. The rewiggling of the straightened brook and restoration was managed by East Mercia River Trust (EMRT) and funded by Environment Agency, Anglian Water, IMF Investors, Harborough District Council. Harborough Woodland volunteer river wardens have completed the river quality monitoring during the project as part of the Anglian Water Citizens Science Pilot study in partnership with EMRT (Welland Valley Partnership). More volunteer river wardens and Harborough Woodland volunteers are always very welcome.
